What’s Going On Wednesday – Penelope Scotland, Spike Lee Does “BAD”, Mary J & D’Angelo Tour

Penelope Scotland??

Congratulations to Kourtney, Scott & Mason on the arrival of their brand new daughter/sister Penelope Scotland Disick.  OK…beautiful baby, but i’m not feeling the name at all.  Penelope is OK, but Scotland?  I’m almost thinking it’s a mistake, or maybe a joke.

Spike Lee Works on Documentary for Michael Jackson ‘Bad’ Album

Director Spike Lee is working on a documentary to celebrate the 25 anniversary of Michael Jackson’s BAD album.

“We have footage in this documentary that no one’s ever seen, stuff that Michael shot himself, behind-the-scenes stuff,” Lee said. “We had complete access to the vaults of Michael Jackson.”

He called it a “treasure chest of findings,” revealed the director. ”He wrote 60 demos for the Bad record. Only 11 made it. So we got to hear a lot of that stuff, too, so it was just a great experience.”

A few of the timeless songs that did make the album include “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Dirty Diana” and “Man in the Mirror.”

Lee, who called Jackson a friend, said the documentary will also show a personal side of the King of Pop. “He had a great sense of humor, and he was funny — so you’ll see a lot of that stuff,” he said.

Mary J. Blige, Melanie Fiona & D’Angelo Team Up For “Liberation” Tour

OK, I couldn’t wait for Turn It Up Thursday to dish about this.  Mary J and D’Angelo????  This is going to be amazing!

After separately dazzling the 2012 Essence Music Festival this weekend, R&B veteransD’Angelo and Mary J. Blige are teaming up for a co-headlining trek dubbed the Liberation Tour.

Although only four East Coast dates for the joint tour have been announced, Blige tells Rolling Stone that the run will be 20 dates long. The first announced date of the tour is Aug. 18 in Virginia Beach, and tickets are currently on sale through Live Nation.

For D’Angelo, the co-headlining tour marks another step in the comeback of a legendary, long-reclusive singer. D played his first U.S. show in over a decade when he made a surprise stop at Bonnaroo last month, and after performing at Essence Fest on Friday night, the singer is booked for Jay-Z‘s inaugural Made in America festival in September.
